Interac Fraud Prevention - Name Matching

As the threat of fraud continues to be present in the payments space, Interac is constantly working to improve their fraud alert processes.

Zūm Rails regularly reviews these improvements to incorporate them into our platform and discourage fraudulent transactions.

As a result, we have added the error code InteracFailedNameMismatch. This code appears when an account holder's name used to fulfill the Interac request and the name of the user who created the transaction are different.

Our name matching tool makes this possible while still allowing legitimate users with only minor differences in their names to pass transactions. If a name mismatch is detected, you can be notified via a webhook and/or email.

In the portal, you can check the name used to fulfill the request as well as the name of the user as pictured below.

If the name does not match, the transaction will fail automatically. If the transaction does fail due to InteracFailedNameMismatch, you will need to update your user's name before attempting another transaction.

Not all financial institutions provide the debtor name to Interac.  As a result, some transactions might still complete and the Interac debtor full name may not be available.
